Our Family History & Reputation

Dartmouth Metals is a family-operated business that goes back to the 1960s.

In 1962, Linwood Giberson began buying and selling metals on Canal Street in Dartmouth. He quickly earned a reputation for fairness and uncompromising service.

In 1979, his son Peter founded what is known today as Dartmouth Metals Ltd. “Like father like son”, Peter was joined in the business by a third generation, David Giberson. We call him Dave.

Dave practically grew up on location and he worked part-time at the company during high school, learning the ins and outs of the family business. He kept involved and continued to work on a half-time basis throughout university. Then in 2003, after graduating, he started full-time at Dartmouth Metals where he and his father Peter work side by side.

Fast forward to today… Dartmouth Metals now employs over 25 people locally and we sell within the Atlantic region, across Canada, and to foreign markets. We have continued to build our reputation on a solid foundation of trust, expertise and superior customer service.

Our Values: Family, Community & the Environment

As a family-run business, our values are all connected. Families, our employees, the community, and the environment.

First and foremost, we consider the safety of our staff to be job #1. For instance, it’s why we’re members of the Nova Scotia Construction Safety Association. In every aspect of our operations, we take great care to ensure the health and safety of our valued employees, whether it’s providing safety training; performing due diligence at our demolition sites; or requiring the wearing of PPE (personal protective equipment). We’re committed to ensuring our staff has the knowledge, tools, and equipment to do their jobs in the safest possible manner.

We also treat the environment with the utmost care and concern, to preserve it for future generations. The province of Nova Scotia has recognized Dartmouth Metals for our ongoing commitment to the environment.

Also, there’s one more thing, we run a business in the community where we live, so it’s important for us to give back at the local level. We sponsor a wide spectrum of local sporting events like hockey, softball, golf, and stock car racing. We also support community service organizations such as the Kiwanis, Shriners, and others.

Our Approach: Advanced Technology & Equipment

From a modern office with an advanced computer system and software to the latest metals processing and recycling technology and equipment, we operate at the highest and most efficient level.

We aim to stay at the forefront of the recycling industry because it benefits everyone: the environment and our clients. With time-saving tools and technology, we can spend more time developing relationships with our customers and understanding their requirements.
